The Power of Networking: Lucky Pig

From Annoula Wylderich

We advocates, perhaps more than most, understand the valuable power of connections and networking to save animal lives. Regardless of what walks of life we come from, this is where our hearts are connected in the effort to help animals.

The joke about falling off a turnip truck became reality for one little piglet who fell off a transport truck in Las Vegas, recently.

Perhaps he was trying to save himself from his ultimate fate when he rolled off the truck and down the road to the shock of one driver and his passengers.

They couldn't leave this tiny creature lying there, so they picked him up and took him to a vet where it was confirmed that his worst injury was a bloody nose. Now, they had to figure out what to do with the little porcine who would eventually grow to several hundred pounds and likely make a buffet of their garden.

Through an animal advocate friend, they were connected to Animal Protection Affiliates who led them to All Friends Animal Sanctuary, run by a family who provides a home to cows, pigs, goats, turkeys, ducks, tortoises and other manner of rescued animals. They welcomed (aptly-named) "Lucky" into their family, where he will live out the rest of his days in muddy splendor, with plenty of sunshine, fresh air, food, belly rubs and friends.
