Dear Mr. Borrett,
First of all, I want to deeply thank you for doing the
extremely difficult and mostly thankless job that you do running your
service.
In seventeen days, the two-year statute of limitations
will run out for a steer tailing event held in Capron, IL on August 27,
2022.
Of all the abuses animal advocates came to expect of
steer tailing, the white steer from this initial event still haunts the
SHARK (Showing Animals Respect and Kindness) team, because we watched him
suffer, without care all day. He was then forced onto a livestock trailer
with his broken leg to be shipped more than 100 miles to Bernard, IA.
Boone County Animal Services and the Boone County
District Attorney has had footage of this day, and so much more for almost
two years.
Literally, hundreds of charges could have been filed to
date there have only been two. One case was lost, the other case was plea
bargained down to the level of a parking ticket.
The shocked and overworked steers, the injuries denied veterinary care, the
horses who were beaten have all been forgotten by most.
Mr. Borrett, you could see to it that charges are filed. The political
powers are protecting the animal abusers. Standing up for what’s right is
what defines a real hero over someone who just rolls over. Unfortunately,
almost everyone in Boone County just rolls over.
Your own mission statement says, "Boone County Animal
Services protects public safety and ensures the humane care of animals
through sheltering, pet placement, education and animal law enforcement."
Please decide to be a hero for the steers and horses
that are brutalized within your county. People from all over America and the
world are watching.
Praying for your compassionate consideration and
action,
