Dear Friends,
On Saturday, October 3 at 8 p.m. ET, I invite you and the creatures whom you love to join me on Zoom for a special Blessing of All Creatures: A Prayer Gathering in the Spirit of St. Francis of Assisi.
Together, we will celebrate the goodness of God’s creation through Scripture, reflection, and prayer for God’s blessing upon the beloved creatures who share our lives. We look forward to your creature friends—dogs, cats, rabbits, birds—or any animal friend who would like to make a Zoom appearance! You may also bring a photograph or keepsake/artifact representing a beloved creature who cannot be with you or one who has passed away.
But our circle of compassion will extend far beyond the animals in our homes. We will pray for all God’s creatures—companion animals, wild animals, all the many suffering animals, and creatures throughout the world who are exploited, dying, frightened, or simply unseen.
This will be a faith-based interdenominational gathering, and all who wish to join us in a spirit of compassion are warmly welcome. The prayers will be from the Christian faith.
We will begin with the creatures we know and love by name and gradually widen our prayers to embrace those whom we may never know—but whom God knows and loves.
I hope you and your animal friends will join me for this joyful time of prayer, gratitude, remembrance, and compassion.
