There is a peace that settles into the soul when we stop cooperating with harm. In a world that runs on hurry and unseen suffering, veganism becomes a quiet sanctuary—a daily choice to live with a cleaner conscience and a gentler footprint. It is not about perfection, but about love and peace.
The peace of veganism is the peace of nonviolence. It is the simple relief of knowing that, as much as we are able, our hands are no longer participating in the torment of God’s creatures. When we make choices rooted in compassion, something within us unclenches. The spirit grows less burdened. The heart becomes less crowded with anxiety and fear. We still feel the sorrow of the world, yes—but we carry it differently, because we are no longer adding to it.
This peace is also relational. Veganism helps us practice the way of Christ: to love rather than take, to protect the vulnerable, to refuse cruelty even when it is culturally convenient. It makes room for the Holy Spirit to form in us a steadier tenderness—one that can walk through a violent world without becoming hardened, and one that can speak truth without losing love.
Lent is a season of searching ourselves. So this week, let your veganism be a prayer of peace not only for the creatures and world but to search yourself for places of anxiety and fear in you—and pray for peace for your body, intellect, and throughout your path on earth. When you see cruelty in the world, don’t let it steal your peace— do what you can as an advocate and immediately offer the situation to Jesus, and ask Him to turn any overwhelming sorrow into steadfast compassion. The world wants to steal your peace and overwhelm you – so you will stop. Jesus wants to fill you up so His Father’s peace and love overflows you.
May the Lord deepen your peace this Lent—not the fragile peace of avoidance, but the enduring peace that comes from living in harmony with love. And your life will quietly testify: there is another way, and it is the way of Christ.
