I’ve decided to share another new hymn this week until the other project is out of final proof. This week’s new hymn—heard first here again and entitled All Creatures Share the Breath of God—is based upon Ecclesiastes 3:19 and is about being awake(n) to the sacred life that God has given to every creature and us, and the freedom our Creator designed for all. The breath of life that God bestowed upon us is not exclusively ours but also the creatures’. They are not objects, products, machines, entertainment, or for the lust of our taste buds; they are living beings who belong to their Maker.
Most of us were born into a world that taught us to accept the human-made imprisonment, torment, misery, and murder of life as though it were normal, necessary, or beyond our ability to change. But when we finally listen to the nudging of the Holy Spirit, our hearts are renewed and thus receive the power to break free of worldly lies. Then we begin to live “on earth as it is in heaven” by embracing and understanding that mercy, loving-kindness, and compassion for His creatures are not sentimental extras or “choices” to decline—they are part of what it means to walk as His confident children in this world and be faithfully with the Maker of all.
